The Brooklyn Botanical Garden is a magical location for a cherry blossom engagement session, especially towards the end of April, just before the annual cherry blossom festival. The trees are at their best during this time, creating a stunning backdrop for the perfect photoshoot. Capturing engagement photos in such a breathtaking setting is a must-do for any couple.
I had the pleasure of photographing a lovely couple at the BBG during this time, and it was a truly enchanting experience. Looking at their love through the cherry blossoms soaked in the sun was a sight to behold. This opportunity only comes once a year, and I was thrilled when Laura suggested we go there for their engagement session. It was a dream come true for me, as I had always wanted to do a shoot at the BBG during the cherry blossom season.
If you are planning to take pictures of you and your significant other at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden during cherry blossom season, it is important to plan ahead. This is a very popular time to visit the garden, so it can get very crowded. Additionally, you need to obtain a permit before going there. You can find more details on the BBG website, but it is not a difficult process and only requires a few emails with the staff.
Since you are putting in effort to enjoy your cherry blossom engagement session, it is important to consider the details. Your outfits, makeup, and jewelry can all make a difference in your photos. You can read a short guide to find all the necessary details. If you have the chance to visit the garden, it is also worth taking some time to just lay down under a tree and look up at the beautiful pink blooms. Don’t miss out on this incredible experience before the magic of the cherry blossoms fades away.
Cherry Esplanade walk
With Laura and Luigi we started right at the Cherry Esplanade. It is the north- east corner of the Garden and also very close to the entrance. I was astund of how colorful it was. the distinct pink color was everywhere. My opportunities of making them as a background or foreground of engagement photos were endless. I asked my couple to mingle between the trees, walk alongside them and cherish the time they spend together. Heading to the rose garden I asked Laura and Luigi to stand in the middle of the aisle and I took the engagement portrait of two of them with cherry blossom. You know, the one that parents would want to have proudly displayed at home.
Other engagement session locations: Brooklyn Botanical Garden
Once you are there for cherry blossom engagement pictures at the Garden, it’s worth visiting other locations nearby. The Garden is quite dense, so it only takes a short walk to get to another beautiful spot. First, I would suggest that you stop by Magnolia Plaza and take some photos there. From there, you can make the background of the building behind you. Depending on your time, you can finish there and have a coffee or ice cream at a nearby cafe. If you have more time, there are plenty of other places to take photos. I would be happy to guide you through my favorite locations.
Congratulations Laura and Luigi !!!
